Ends of the Earth Missions Conference (Conference)

Can a regular person with a normal life share their faith among unreached peoples around the globe? What do you do to get from here to there? What might you do to become that sort of person? On Sept. 10-11, Bluewater Mission is hosting an area-wide missions mobilization conference called "Ends of the Earth." It will be hosted at Calvary Chapel of Honolulu in Aiea. This is your opportunity to connect with missions organizations, and our own Hawai‘i church ohana to explore these very questions.Featured speaker Carl Medearis is a 25-year missionary to the Arab Muslim world; international expert on Muslim-Christian relations; and author of Muslims, Christians, and Jesus, and Tea with Hezbollah, (co-written with Ted Dekker). Do you have a baby carrier that isn't working quite right? Are you lost trying to figure out what kind of baby carrier to get? Come learn the basics of babywearing in Babywearing 101. Taught by babywearing expert, Kristin Speltz, RN, and leader of E Ho'ohapai na Kamalei, O'ahu's babywearing group, you'll learn the ins and outs of babywearing.
Mayor's Remembrance Walk (Community Event)
Time: 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM
Location: Downtown Honolulu
The public is invited to participate in the fifth annual Mayor’s remembrance Walk on Saturday, September 11, 2010. The walk is being held in observance of the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on America and to recognize the first-responders and members of the armed forces who continue to protect our safety.The walk will cover the Frank F. Fasi Civic Center and part of Kakaako and will include brief ceremonies and wreath presentations at the Honolulu Police Department headquarters, Honolulu Fire Department headquarters, and the formal program at Honolulu Hale. Participants are asked to gather at the entrance of the Honolulu Police Department’s Alapai headquarters on 801 South Beretania Street by 5:30 p.m. Participants in the walk are encouraged to bring flashlights. Parking will be available at the Civic Center parking structure. For more information, call the Mayor’s Office of Culture and the Arts at 768-6622.

Working Memory and how it affects attention and learning in students with dyslexia and related problems (Education)

In this free public lecture, Dr. Rosemary Tannock will explain what working memory is and highlight key research findings showing the relationships amongst working memory, attention, and various aspects of reading (decoding, word recognition, comprehension). Also, practical suggestions will be provided as to how to enhance children’s attention and reduce the load on working memory in the classroom and during reading.
